CONTROL & AUTOMATION—MACHINE UPGRADES

PLC controlled machines can be upgraded with additional sensors measuring with graphs recording their data. This data can then be used for quality records or for activating an alarm when a process becomes out of a predetermined range.

HMI Screen – graphic modifications. This could be a password to a protected supervisor screen, Allowing operators to view but not change set points.

Safety device – New safety devices can speed up cycle times with the addition of safety curtains replacing old fashion guarding or cages.

EICR TESTING

Every electrical installation deteriorates with use and time. Therefore, if the safety of the users is not to be put at risk, it is important that every installation is periodically inspected and tested by a competent person. Indeed, it is recommended in BS 7671: 2018 that every electrical installation is subjected to periodic inspection and testing.

The inspection and testing should be carried out at appropriate intervals in order to determine what, if anything, needs to be done to maintain the installation in a safe and serviceable condition.

An inspection and test could be carried out every 3 or 5 years depending on the installation type or divided into a smaller manageable amount that is completed annually.

A report showing any faults and their severity will be issued after each test.

The certificate will be evidence to prove that maintenance is being regularly carried out. This may be necessary if your insurers ask or in the unfortunate event that someone gets hurt by any part of your electrical system in your premises.
